One of the greatest strengths of SVA is the diversity of its student body and the enrichment of the school’s learning environment by that diversity.

Our 300+ young women represent a variety of faith traditions and ethnic backgrounds that reflect the enormous vitality of our urban communities. This year, 68% of our students are black or African-American, another 22% are Hispanic or Latina, 7% are Portuguese or other white, and 3% are Asian or multi-ethnic. Thirty-nine percent are Roman Catholic. Geographically, the large majority of our students live in the Greater Newark area. In addition, most of our students come from financially challenged families who are seeking ways to provide their daughters with a safe, loving, rigorous academic environment.

Amidst all this diversity, the most striking traits are the ones that all our young women share – a passion for learning, a dedication to family, a respect for her community and a desire to excel.

"To our freshman sisters - it is here at SVA where you will become a woman."
