Saint Vincent Academy (SVA), founded in 1869 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, is a Catholic, college preparatory school for young women of richly diverse and often politically, socially and economically underrepresented cultures. Located in Newark, New Jersey, the Academy empowers urban women to take their place in society by providing them with a rigorous academic program, rooted in Gospel values, characterized by consistently high expectations and supported by a nurturing, disciplined community. The Academy prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes requisite to productive living. SVA fosters in its students a secure sense of themselves as women, a belief in God's love, an appreciation for the power of community, a commitment to Christian service, a capacity for compassionate leadership and a desire to contribute to the betterment of society. As part of its mission, SVA strives to provide an atmosphere of learning and individual development that extends well beyond our campus and into the larger community. Inspired, nurtured and challenged by our dedicated faculty, our young women excel not only in the classroom but in the world. You’ll find our graduates among the leaders in their professions, their communities, and their personal lives. Whether teaching, healing, organizing, leading or helping, our graduates never stop seeking to achieve that level of excellence that best reflects their individual interests, abilities and goals. |
